Carmeuse Lime and Stone Holds Student Talent Tour

October 12, 2016 - Sixty students, grades 9-12, from Posen, Onaway, and Rogers City Area Schools participated in a Talent Tour at Carmeuse Lime and Stone. The tour began with safety training, a company introduction and history. After that, students were split into groups according to interest. Employees from a variety of disciplines conducted tours and provided students insights into what educational requirements were necessary for their positions, as well as what a typical day at work was like in those positions. Disciplines included millwork, machinist, electrician, engineering, office support, mill operator, and shore loading.

Student feedback was incredibly positive, with every student said they'd like to participate in more tours in the future. Students found the tour very informative, and they enjoyed learning about the different career options, hearing tips to prepare themselves for their future, and also learning about the variety of machinery used at the site. The rock crusher, the roof of the mill, and the tunnels were a big hit with the students, as well as the personalities and humor of the tour guides. Many students stated that this tour really got them thinking about their future career plans, and the possibility of working at Carmeuse themselves. The tour was coordinated by Michigan Works Northeast Consortium.

As summed up perfectly by one student, "[This tour] is not a waste of lime. It'll rock your world!"
