Thomas Krebs started in the family dining business operating the Big Boy in West Branch. He was looking to expand in a dining business that would allow for travel (reasonable distance to maintain) and location was also key. Gaylord’s location, off of I-75 and M-32, was a well-traveled route and the Rally’s business model was the sort that met Thomas’ needs.

Krebs worked with Business Services Professional Kathy Bradley to advertise for candidates on Pure Michigan Talent Connect and they also utilized one of Michigan Works! rooms for interviewing. Kathy also went over the current programs available to employers, but Krebs stated they didn’t meet the criteria at this current time.

“Michigan Works! has been a valuable resource for when we were hiring for Gaylord,” says Krebs. “The staff was very helpful and I would recommend the Gaylord Michigan Works! to any business.”

From 5 years till now, Krebs has operated a Big Boy that employs 60 in West Branch and a Rally’s that employs 20 in Gaylord. With his expansion plans, he hopes to bring that number closer to 30 part-time staff in Gaylord. It is his hope that as Rally’s becomes more known in the area, he’ll soon need to employ even more people.

While Krebs has over 10 years in the restaurant business, the Gaylord Rally’s site is a new site for his expanding restaurant business. Their community involvement has just started; they offer super saver cards, are members of the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce and look to become more active in the community. So far, Rally’s has provided gift cards for donations, sponsored a walk, and provided a place for schools to come for field trips.
