Teamwork Finds the Right Fit

Lynne Smith began coming to the Resource Room at Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium in Crawford County in October 2013 to search for jobs. The job board and Pure Michigan Talent Connect website provided Lynne leads and the computers enabled her to apply for jobs online, but the “you’re hired” call hadn’t come. In the spring of 2014, Lynne attended the career fair prep classes and then attended the career fair. During career fair follow-up, Lynne and Talent Specialist Marjorie Schreiner became better acquainted and worked together to revise Lynne’s resume and discussing job search goals. Lynne was able find part time work, but her ultimate goal was full time work with benefits.

At this same time, Air Way Automation contacted Julie Creps, Certified Business Services Professional at Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, asking for assistance in filling a position in their purchasing department. Julie discussed with Talent Specialists Marjorie Schreiner and Lin Kelly the qualifications for the position and Lynne’s qualifications were a good match. Resumes for potential candidates, including Lynne, were submitted to the employer and interviews were scheduled. The teamwork between Julie and Marjorie proved fruitful and Lynne was interviewed and offered the position. She was thrilled to accept and began work April 15, 2015.

“A big thank you goes out to Marjorie at MW! in Grayling for proofing my resume more times than either of us care to count! Thankfully, she has always kept me in mind when she sees postings that might fit well with my experiences,” says Lynne. She continues, “I firmly believe that my success since January of 2015 is mainly attributed to the fact that I removed graduation dates from my resume at Marjorie’s suggestion! Now I’ve finally found a real job, with real benefits and a real wage in northern Michigan!”
