When Fred B. came to Michigan Works! in Gaylord he was unsure how to proceed after his September layoff. He was worried about the hardship this would cause on his family, as he had never been laid off before and was unsure of the process.

Fred states, “The Michigan Works office in Gaylord made things extremely easy. Sara, the frontline staff, was very helpful in helping me job search, creating a professional resume, and referring me to the Veterans Representative in both Gaylord and Grayling.”

Staff helped Fred complete online applications, explained how important good keywords in your resume are when applying to government jobs, and also helped Fred prepare for a behavioral interview.

Fred reports that the services he received were great. He also stated he had a great experience in Traverse City at a workshop he attended with his Vet Rep. Thanks to the assistance and guidance he received, Fred got a new job as a Field Service Mechanic and with help from the Otsego Community Fund Grant, Fred was able to purchase some of the needed tools required for employment in his new position.

Fred continues, “I am extremely grateful for the help Michigan Works! has given me in finding employment and I cannot thank you enough for the help with purchasing some of the needed tools that are required for my new position. Finding this job was an answer to prayer and the staff at Michigan Works! are a true blessing."
