Working Mom Completes Nursing School with Michigan Works! Help

Myranda CRT recipient

Myranda was in her second year of nursing school when she first heard about the Class Room Training (CRT) Program offered through Michigan Works! Prior to her enrollment in the program, she constantly worried about how she was going to afford textbooks, classes, supplies, etc. She went to school full time at North Central Michigan College, while also working a full-time job and taking care of her family and three children.

When she discovered the CRT program through Michigan Works!, she immediately took advantage of the opportunity to jump on board with financial assistance for school. Thanks to the assistance that this program offered, she was able to cut back some hours at work with little worry about making ends meet for her family, and keep her focus on the most important thing, nursing school.

Through the CRT program, Michigan Works! was able to help Myranda with mileage to and from school, and her clinicals. MW! also helped with a necessary vehicle repair and provided assistance with tuition, books, uniforms, and the NCLEX exam fee. This helped Myranda overcome the struggle of trying to work full time, take care of her family, and attend school full time.

Thanks to the help MW! Provided, Myranda participated in the Student Nurses Association, received her Associates of Applied Sciences in Nursing, and passed the NCLEX exam.

“With the help from Michigan Works!, I was able to accomplish a lifelong dream of mine, becoming a registered nurse,” says Myranda. “With the aid from the program, I was able to succeed in the many challenges I faced. I graduated the nursing program with little worry about the financial burden associated with student debt. I am forever thankful to have been given the opportunity to work with MW! in meeting the financial requirements for attending the nursing program.”
