From a Dead End to the Open Road: Training Success With Michigan Works!
When Jared came to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, he was stuck in a job with no future. With no chance to grow in his current job, he decided he wanted to pursue his CDL. He knew that would open a lot of doors for him and lead to more career opportunities. Unfortunately, his income was tight and he didn’t have a way to pay for his CDL training. He heard about Michigan Works! class room training programs through a friend and decided to check it out for himself.
Working with Career Advisor Niki Chamberlain, Jared was not only able to get assistance with his tuition costs, but was able to get mileage reimbursement for gas to/from school every day during his three-week training program.
Jared was very pleased with the training and his instructor with Road Warrior Truck Driving School, Kurt, said Jared was a pleasure to work with. Jared was impressed with the one-on-one training he received and noted that his instructor was very patient with him and made sure he was prepared for the final test.
Thanks to the assistance he received from Michigan Works! and the instructors at Road Warrior, Jared obtained is CDL. He is currently employed at Lofgren’s in Cheboygan as a full-time driver and is loving his new job.
Jared says everyone he worked with was extremely helpful and he could not have done this without the financial assistance and the guidance from everyone involved. He admits, driving a semi was very challenging at first but by the end of the 3-week class, he was completely comfortable operating a commercial vehicle.
