Going PRO Talent Fund information sessions to be held throughout northeast Michigan

Beginning in mid-August, Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium will be holding employer Information Sessions on the Going PRO Talent Fund. If you’re an employer in need of training assistance for existing and new staff, don’t miss out on your share of $30 million available in employer grants! Employers of ALL SIZES in ALL INDUSTRIES are encouraged to apply!

The Going PRO Talent Fund, formerly known as the Skilled Trades Training Fund, increases the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s employers by providing awards for customized employer responsive training. The intent of these awards is to enhance and train talent, increase productivity and employment retention, support registered apprenticeships, and meet the current demand needed to address the skills gaps of employees.

Last year Northeast Michigan employers alone received funding in total of $368,000 from the Going PRO Talent Fund. In 2019, 24 grants were awarded, ranging from $1,000 to $135,000, resulting in over 300 employee trainings.

Statewide, from 2014 to 2019, 3,136 awards were granted, with an average award amount of $31,548 and the average training cost per person of $1,062. Employers applying for Going PRO Talent Fund awards are encouraged to hire veterans, as they’ll receive an additional $500 for each newly-hired vet.

Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium will be holding information sessions for employers across the region in August, at which businesses can learn about the application process and how to get started. The info sessions will also cover the different types of training allowed, grant requirements, and funding parameters.
