Local Engineering Company Uses CAD Training To Remain Competitive

R. S. Scott Associates is a local engineering company that has served Northeast Michigan for over 75 years. They specialize in designing bridges, roads, buildings, parks, trails, and land developments. Demand for their services is expected to increase dramatically in the near future, as Michigan Legislature approves funding to upgrade the state’s infrastructure. With this growth, RS Scott will need to hire new employees, which may be difficult considering the highly skilled needs of the company in relation to the experience of the available workforce in the area. RS Scott continues to utilize Michigan Works for assistance in recruiting and training individuals as needed.

In 2016, with assistance from Michigan Works, RS Scott was awarded a Skilled Trades Training Fund grant in the amount of $1575. These funds were used to train senior AutoCAD software engineer, Tom Smith, in Civil 3D Software Programs. Smith will, in-turn, train other employees at the company. Thanks to this training, Smith and other employees at RS Scott, will be more efficient in their jobs and better equipped to meet the needs of the company.

RS Scott uses complex technologies, such as 3D software, on a daily basis and these technologies have advanced in recent years. In order to stay competitive, RS Scott must constantly strive to maintain competency with the new software products being introduced. As such, this training is highly beneficial, if not imperative to the company’s future. The CAD training will enable RS Scott employees to produce more enhancements to complex drawings, depicting the engineer's overall design, keeping RS Scott competitive and technologically up-to-date. It will also help, significantly, in trickle-down training of staff members with less skills that are interested in joining their professional team.
