Star Cutter Tools Trains 8 With Skilled Trades Training Fund Grant
Star Cutter Tools was started in the Detroit area in 1927. During its first year of operation, Star Cutter employed about 10 employees. From this small beginning, Star Cutter has developed into a world leader in the tool cutting industry, manufacturing quality machine tools, cutting tools, and tool resharpening machines. Star Cutter Company has six manufacturing facilities with five manufacturing divisions producing seven product lines. Both Tawas Tool Company and Ossineke Industries are subsidiaries of Star Cutter Tools and each facility specializes in producing a specific type of product or service.
Both Ossineke Industries and Tawas Tool were founded in 1972. Today Tawas Tool employs over 120 workers and is a major employer in Iosco County. Tawas Tool uses CNC equipment and advanced technology to manufacture cutting tools for the automotive industry. Ossineke Industries Inc. has 60 full time employees and generates an estimated $8.5 million in annual revenue.
Star Cutter Tools worked with Michigan Works to secure 2015 STTF grants totaling $4200 for Tawas Tool and $3150 for Ossineke Industries. Star Cutter says the monies were extremely beneficial and they utilized these monies to train eight employees on technology advancements for capital equipment they had purchased. The training helped to increase their efficiencies throughout their organizations. The grant also assisted Star Cutter Tools to continue to remain competitive as a supplier in their domestic and international market places.
“As we continue to strive to meet and/or exceed our customer’s requirements throughout the world, it is imperative that skilled trade employees and potential candidates are knowledgeable in the operation of CNC equipment and are trained and equipped with these skills,” says Human Resources Manager, Lindsey Bielby. “Without the State of Michigan’s interest and awareness of employer needs, we could not remain a viable contributing factor as a supplier of precision cutting tools to the aerospace, automotive, agriculture, gas & oil, medical and fire arms industries. Thank you for recognizing our need and your support!”
