Gaylord, Michigan - The Northeast MI Council of Governments (NEMCOG) in partnership with NE MI Consortium/ Region 7b /MI Works announces the recipients of the MI Economic Development Corporation’s MI Workforce Training Center Equipment Grant Program. The grants were awarded to the following: Alpena Community College for a semi-tractor trailer equipped to train both credit and non-credit students to complete the required Class A CDL skills test without restrictions; Industrial Arts Institute for the purchase of welding/metal fabrication equipment; Kirtland Community College for testing equipment; and the Road Warrior Truck Driving School for semi-trucks and trailers. These grants enable the training providers to enhance and expand current in-demand training programs for those seeking certification in the trade’s programs.
The State of Michigan allocated 3 million in funding to enable the MI Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to implement the MI Workforce Training Center Equipment Grant Program. The Northeast MI Region, 11-Counties comprising the Region 3: Collaborative Development Council was allocated $210,000 for competitive equipment grants to qualified training providers.
