This opportunity is a win-win for everyone. People are getting jobs and money is being put back into the community. I started training in October and I’m already working (in December). – Amy, graduate of the first training class

Seventeen training graduates were recognized at a grand opening event on December 10th.

The Digital Works – Cheboygan facility opened its doors in the Straits Area Education Center in October. The first career training class has nine graduates; four have already started working and the other five are currently securing their new, online careers. A second class of eight adults is nearing graduation and online employment, as well.

“I’ve been a cashier my whole life, but now I can’t stand for long periods of time and I haven’t found other jobs that will let me sit and stand at work,” said Cheryl, a Digital Works – Cheboygan graduate. “The jobs I’ve applied for through Digital Works will let me work at a computer. I can start work at 7 a.m. or take the morning off to do errands and work the afternoon or evening. I’m my own boss, I’ll only answer to myself, and I can set my own work hours.”

Digital Works connects people to leading-edge customer support and IT jobs for global corporations by providing training, mentorship, and job placement assistance, as well as the opportunity for advanced careers. Many program graduates benefit from the work-at-home opportunities available with the more than 50 Digital Works employer partners.

December 10, 2015, Digital Works – Cheboygan held a grand opening event to congratulate the first graduating class and to recognize the efforts of multiple community partners to bring the program to the area. Partners include AirNorth Communications, Cheboygan Communities Foundation, Cheboygan Economic Development Group, City of Cheboygan, Connect Michigan, Connected Nation, Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Michigan Works! Start-up funding was provided by MEDC and the Cheboygan Communities Foundation, along with free rent and utilities provided by Straits Area Education Center owners.
