From Unemployed to A Job She Loves
In December 2014, Destiny Golder was referred to Michigan Works! from DHS to participate in PATH program. She was unemployed, lacked childcare, transportation funds, and appropriate job search and work clothing. She also lacked relevant experience and job search skills, but she wanted to be able to provide for her family.
Michigan Works! Case Manager Michelle Burns provided Destiny with resources for childcare, assistance with mileage reimbursement for job search purposes, assistance with appropriate clothing for her job search, and referred her to the Pure Michigan Talent Connect for look for open positions available. Destiny also attended job search workshops and worked with Talent Specialist Mary Davis to create a resume and cover letter.
Destiny was hired at the Senior Citizens Center in Alpena part-time. Very quickly, she was offered a full-time position with Turning Brook in Alpena. Destiny continues to work there full-time as a Direct Care Worker and she enjoys what she does. She is excited that the experience she is getting at Turning Brook will benefit her in the future as well.
With the guidance she received from Michigan Works!, Destiny learned that with hard work and persistence, you will get positive results and obtain employment.
“Michigan Works! helped me find the job I love and am still working at today. If it wasn’t for them, I probably would never have found it. I thank them so much for their help with my needs to provide for my family.” – Destiny Golder
