For the past eight years, Dustyn R. has worked at Cheboygan Cement Products as a full-time General Laborer. He really enjoys his job, but without additional training there is no room for advancement at the company. Dustyn had been interested in becoming a truck driver, so he did some research and talked it over with his employer. His employer thought it was a good idea and said that after training he would be able to move up in the company, driving a truck for them in the near future. This would also mean a substantial pay raise. So Dustyn decided he would work to obtain his CDL-A through Road Warrior Truck Driving School.

Dustyn came to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium to get assistance with his training costs. They were able to help with tuition and offer mileage reimbursement to and from the training for three weeks.

Dustyn completed the training and obtained his CDL-A. His instructor was very pleased with how well he did on both the written and driving portions of the test. Shortly after training was completed, Dustyn received a raise and was promoted to his new driving position. Thanks to this formal training, Dustyn had the opportunity to move up in the company and is now a more valuable employee. He has expanded his skills to help cover more areas of need within the company.

Dustyn says he’s very thankful for the help from Michigan Works! and is excited about his new opportunity. In addition, he said he’s learned a lot of about safety and how important safe driving is for the company.
