Job Search in a New Area Can Be Daunting
Michael Stauffer and his family moved to Alpena when his wife took a teaching position. Being new to the area, Michael was unfamiliar with the local job scene and where to search for jobs. While Michael had his Bachelor’s degree in Social Service, he could not find a job in his field, so he had been working a job in lawn care. But he wanted a change.
Michael came to Michigan Works! and Talent Specialist Barb Timm assisted him in his job search. In addition to providing resume assistance, she also would notify him when job openings in his field were posted.
Shortly after, Michael found a full-time position with the Alpena Senior Citizens Center as an In-Home Assessment Worker. Not only is Michael making a better wage, he’s quite happy he found work in his field of study.
“This job is such an excellent fit for me! I have learned a lot and continue to feel like a growing asset to the Senior Center,” says Michael.
