Cutting Edge Computers of Gaylord offers in-house IT solutions from PC sales, repair, and network deployment to cloud computing back-up solutions. A family owned business, Cutting Edge has been serving Gaylord area since 2006. Owner Mike Willits started by supporting several local businesses out of his home. As his client list grew, he decided it was time to give the customers a store. In October of 2014 the doors officially opened and ever since, Cutting Edge’s business has grown at a relatively strong pace. To continue to serve their clientele with the best service possible, Cutting Edge must continue to be on the “cutting edge” of an ever changing technology.

Cutting Edge is no stranger to partnering with Michigan Works! for their workforce development needs. In 2017, they worked with Michigan Works! to secure a Skilled Trades Training Grant to help train three of their administrative staff. Most recently, when Cutting Edge needed help finding and training a new hire, they once again came to Michigan Works!

Business Services Professional Jennifer Coughlin was able to set them up with an On-the-Job Training (OJT) for their new hire. This program helped to pay a portion of the new hire’s wages while they were in their first few weeks of training for the position.

“We always have a hard time finding quality employees and have to stop taking jobs while we train them…so we lose money,” states co-owner Courtney Willits. “[Thanks to Michigan Works!’ OJT assistance] we were able to use the funding to make sure our tech got properly trained without having to struggle financially”
