Michigan Works! Assistance Helps Jobseeker Acquire Resources Needed To Follow Dream

Corey Blankenship

Because of some medical concerns, Corey Blankenship had recently decided to move back home to Gaylord, MI from Oregon to be closer to family. He moved back in with his parents while trying to find employment and get back on his feet. To help him get the education needed to start a new career, Corey came to Michigan Works.

Michigan Works! was able to help Corey with tuition assistance, mileage reimbursement (to/from the Kirtland Community College-MTEC for his classes), and tires for his car. Corey also found employment at the University Center, where his classes were held.

"I am a 30-year-old who has worked as a news director, a manager in Yellowstone National Park, and a satellite technician, but as I got older,  I thought about going back to school more and more,” says Corey. “Thanks to the wonderful assistance from Michigan Works!, I was able to acquire the resources I needed to be able to follow that dream. I graduated with honors with a GPA of 3.98 and received an Associate's Degree in Industrial Mechatronics. I landed a great job at Weyerhaeuser OSB Mill in Grayling as an engineer intern and I'm getting the education and experience I need to start a wonderful career."
