Promise FM Receives Skilled Trades Grant to Train Employees
Promise FM is a non-profit and strives to be good stewards of their resources, as they are funded by the donations and sponsorships of their listeners and business partners. Proud to be one of the strongest signals in Northern Michigan, Promise serves loyal listeners who are family-oriented, very conservative, and value-oriented.
Promise staff knows that anytime they can learn and better themselves, it serves their customers/listeners. Executive Director Pat Scott says, “To be prepared and knowledgeable is the best way to serve. Anytime we can streamline and be more efficient with office work and computer work, it frees us up to call and contact our listeners, to be out in the community meeting them, and putting a face on the radio station… this is what increases our business.”
“We can spend needless hours doing things the difficult way, or worse yet, not doing anything at all, which keeps us stagnant and therefore not advancing. To be a vibrant we need to be organized, have follow through and achieve the goals that we set. That takes planning and most importantly, training our employees,” said Jenny Boyce, Promise’s Business & Community Director.
For years, Promise FM has had a positive impact on our community and a positive outlook on employment and training for the benefit of its staff and their listeners. Working with Michigan Works!, they applied for Skilled Trade Training Funds and were awarded $6,675.
With the training grant, Promise FM provided Lean Office training for five employees, including one new hire. With little turn over at their station, they will use this training to continue to advance, as well as retain, their staff.
