Program Support Helps Youth Overcome Difficulties
Alexis Blanchard was referred to Project Explore and Succeed by staff when she was in the 10th grade. She was a bright, high-energy student, but faced many challenges personally and in school. Throughout the next three years, Ms. Blanchard met repeatedly with staff, participated in leadership development skills activities and educational trips. She was always an enthusiastic and energetic participant, and she made several good friends in the program. According to Alexis, being able to meet with the program staff helped her deal with a variety of personal and scholastic difficulties, which helped her do better overall in school as well.
With Alexis’ high energy interaction she experienced positive development through the program, and, in spite of moving several times and being separated from part of her family, she successfully completed her high school diploma.
Currently, Alexis lives on her own and she is being interviewed for job at Boyne Resort this summer. Next year, she plans on attending college at North Central Michigan College.
