Training Grant Helps Alpena Diesel Hires Hit Ground Running
Thanks to a $6,300 Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) grant in 2016, Alpena Diesel was able to provide specialized training for five employees. Diesel engine, electrical and air conditioning training took place at Alpena Community College and Cummins Bridgeway, and employees received completion certificates for their efforts.
In addition, the funding helped Alpena Diesel hire and train two new employees thanks to on-the-job training funds. This additional training will help to keep Alpena Diesel more competitive, as they are expecting further growth and increased productivity over the next few years. The STTF grant has allowed Alpena Diesel to increase the skills of the current staff and new hires, which will help them keep their competitive edge, delivering their products and services to their customers quicker and more efficiently.
Jesse Mischloney, an employee of Alpena Diesel, said, “The training I received is a definite asset that I can use now, as well as in the future.”
“STTF through Michigan Works! [Northeast Consortium] has allowed us to give new employees a chance to hit the ground running,” says Alpena Diesel President Joel Suszek. “In this tight economy, training dollars are hard to come by. This grant enables us to have productive, well-trained employees. In today’s competitive market that can be the difference between success and failure. Thank you [Michigan Works!] for your assistance.”
